1. World Bird Sanctuary

One of the best places to birdwatch is World Bird Sanctuary at 125 Bald Eagle Ridge Road. This nature preserve is easily accessible from US-50 W if you take N Outer Rd to Antire Rd. It features 305 acres of gorgeous hardwood forest and provides non-releasable birds with large outdoor avian exhibits. Throughout the sanctuary, you can see hundreds of animals, including:

2. Forest Park

Forest Park at 5595 Grand Drive is also worth visiting if you want to see birds. This free urban park is conveniently located fewer than two miles from US-40 E, and you can easily get there by taking exit 34B and following signs for Forest Park. This beautiful park is home to 47,000 trees and over 220 species of birds, and depending on the time of year, you can expect to see such birds as:

  • Sandpipers
  • Ruby-throated Hummingbirds
  • Bald Eagles
  • Hawks

You can see birds in the grasslands, lakes, ponds, ​and forests here year-round. However, we highly recommend going ​on a bird walk on the first Saturday of the month with a tour guide.

3. Tower Grove Park

Finally, we strongly recommend checking out Tower Grove Park at 4257 Northeast Dr if you want to watch birds. You can get to this park by following signs for Missouri Botanical Garden from Kingshwy Blvd off of US-40 E, turning left onto Magnolia Ave, then turning right onto Center Cross Dr. There are several birding hotspots within this park, and other 200 species have been identified here.

One of the best spots to keep your eyes peeled for birds is the Robert & Martha Gaddy Wild Bird Garden. This tranquil oasis located in the park’s northwest corner features a picturesque pond and waterfall. Another great place to relax and look for birds is the Savannah Complex.
