The 67.4-acre Roger Klamberg Woods Conservation Area is right next to Bluebird Park and is a beautiful green space with 62 recorded bird species. Go on a relaxing family hike or bike down the multi-use trails through the conservation area’s protected woodlands.

Walk over a quaint footbridge that stretches over a babbling brook, listen to the songbirds in the trees, and catch glimpses of doves, hummingbirds, vireos, sparrows, and finches. If you keep your eyes peeled, you may spot hawks and barn owls on your way through the woods.

Roger Klamberg Woods Conservation Area is at 89 Oak Hill Drive and is open daily between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.

3. Howl With the Wolves at the Endangered Wolf Center

For over 50 years, the Endangered Wolf Center has been protecting endangered wolves, foxes, and African-painted dogs. Now you and your family have the unique opportunity to get close to these magnificent wild creatures. The center offers a family-friendly hour-and-a-half Endangered Species Tour with an educational classroom session and a guided tour of the animal habitats. It’s also puppy season, making it even more exciting!

You will learn why wolves are important in the wild and see Mexican, red, and maned wolves and African-painted dogs. If you stay until after dark, you and the kids can listen to wolves howl – something they don’t often do during the daylight hours.
